Spicy Thai Chicken Wings

In the United States, all the sports fans are counting down to February 3, for Super Bowl 2013. Super Bowl is all about chicken wings, as the football enthusiasts watch the game while nibbling mouthwatering chicken wings. Other than the regular buffalo wings, you might want to try out something different this year, and I have just the perfect recipe for you—spicy Thai chicken wings that are sure to fire up the appetite and add some heat to the intense Superbowl game. The flavor of these spicy Thai chicken wings is similar to the regular spicy buffalo wings but with an Asian twist. The heat comes from Sriracha, everyone’s favorite Thai hot sauce, with a tint of briny umami taste from soy sauce and Chinese oyster sauce, plus the subtle aroma of Chinese cooking wine. To serve, keep it American style by pairing the spicy Thai chicken wings with celery sticks. Try this recipe this Super Bowl and I am very sure that everyone will be in for a treat and will not stop eating! Have fun. (Click Page 2 for the Thai Spicy Chicken Wings Recipe)

Taiwanese Pineapple Tarts/Shortcakes
Jan 28th 2013, 15:42

For Chinese in Malaysia and Singapore, and those who live overseas, this time of year means one thing: baking time for the upcoming Lunar New Year. As the year of Snake is just barely two weeks away, every household is busy prepping for the upcoming new year. Spring cleaning, shopping for Chinese New Years foods and goodies for friends, families, and clients, buying new clothes and shoes, and most definitely, making batches of batches pineapple tarts, peanut cookies, kuih bangkit, and more. Every where you go, you will see vendors, shops, hawkers selling their  Chinese New Year cakes, and one of the most popular items is pineapple tarts. On Rasa Malaysia, I have shared a couple of recipes here and here, but this year, I have decided to ask my contributor Ho Siew Loon to share a Taiwanese Pineapple Tarts recipe, which is no less tasty than the regular ones. Personally, I prefer Taiwanese pineapple tarts/shortcakes, or 凤梨酥, which is a must-buy whenever I go to Taiwan, or Taiwanese-style bakeries. They are rectangles or squares in shape, rich, crumbly, buttery, and filled with a decadent filling. I just can’t stop eating them, and they are especially great with tea. This...

More restaurants are implementing measures to curb diners' use of the devices, saying it disturbs other customers and slows service. But some are resigned this cell hell.

For the past 21/2 years, Bill Miller of Malibu Kitchen has had a hard-and-fast rule at his upscale deli: If you're on your cellphone when you reach the head of the line, he won't serve you.

Cortez in Echo Park is a small-plates restaurant that may divide diners, and its dishes, some delicious, may be difficult to divide among diners.

What you think about Cortez is going to depend in large part on what you think about crowds, and noise, and screechy jazz, about well-meaning servers who are slightly impatient with the idea of service, and about spending most of an hour leaning up against a shoe box-narrow windowsill waiting for a seat to open up.

Maybe it's the sense of danger that reels you in at first. The crazy name, the wild picture slapped on the bottle. Before you know it, you're on for the ride, and the best ones leave you reduced to a sweaty and speechless mess. When it's finally over, you can't help but want more.

Subtle fresh spring rolls, a rollicking green papaya salad, comforting pig's knuckle soup, fragrant lemon grass pork, "shaking" beef and caramelized shrimp — they're all delicious but hardly the easiest dishes to pair with wines.

Jan 25th 2013, 00:00

Midwinter is peak time for citrus to be eaten fresh, and this year quality has been superb, probably because of the extended heat earlier in the growing season. Here are tips about which varieties to look for now and from which growing areas, including recommended growers, tips for choosing and using, and potential pitfalls. For each type there's also a peek at what the future has to offer.

Butter Cake Recipe
Jan 23rd 2013, 15:30

(This is the BEST butter cake recipe ever. Updated with new photos. Originally published in 2008.) Even though I am still a rookie in the baking department, I am slowly but surely getting the hang of things, especially baking cakes. I love baking cakes; I find it rather easy, well, if I choose a simple recipe. I especially enjoy baking cakes in the weekends because nothing tastes better than a cup of hot coffee with a freshly baked cake—while I read through my magazines or newspaper on a Sunday morning. And then, on Monday, I can heat up my leftover cake in the microwave for 10 seconds and have myself a nice breakfast to beat my Monday blues and start off my hectic work week on the right foot. I love cakes, and now I love baking them. One of the cakes I absolutely love is butter cake–plain old simple but always good butter cake. It calls for really common ingredients that everyone has in their fridge or pantry, and that totally fits my bill in terms of convenience. For butter cake, I used to cheat with store-bought yellow cake mix—Duncan Hines, Pillsbury, or Betty Crocker. Now I can just bake butter cake at home. Love Baking? Try these baking recipes from Rasa Malaysia....

Rasa Malaysia: Easy Asian Recipes: 15 Minute Soba Noodle Soup

15 Minute Soba Noodle Soup
Jan 21st 2013, 14:31

I love all sorts of noodles but if I have to choose one of my favorite noodles, it would probably be Japanese soba, or buckwheat noodles. There are many reasons why I love soba: the slippery and smooth texture and the subtle taste of the buckwheat flour. Served cold as zaru soba (cold soba) or hot with a broth, soba never fails to satisfy my palate. Another thing that I love about soba is the convenience of preparing the noodles. Soba usually comes in individual serving bundles, so there is no prep work of measuring, soaking, and rinsing involved. All I have to do is peel off the paper wrapper that binds the noodles together, and off they go into a pot of boiling water, and in a few minutes, the soba noodles are ready to be served. On warm summer days, I love a serving of cold soba with dipping sauce, which is simple yet utterly delicious. On cold winter days when I need some warmth, I adore a steaming hot bowl of soba noodle soup with all the trimmings: vegetables, mushrooms, shrimp, and topped with some seaweed strips and a generous dash of togarashi, or Japanese spices. This is my 15-minute soba noodle soup recipe, ones that I have made over and over again, but never fails to...
